Coaching and Work Consultancy

I've spent many years supporting people as they make choices about their work, personal, and vocational life, including 8 years as a personal tutor on the St Albans and Oxford Ministry Course.
'Anne was my tutor for the last two years of the St Albans and Oxford Ministry Course, during which time I found her to be both helpful and very perceptive. Her guidance helped me through the difficult times and without her gentle persuasion and encouragement I might never have completed the course.' Revd Martin Macdonald

As a personal coach, I work mainly with individuals who are at a 'What next?' moment, using the insights gained through my training with SIMA (UK) Ltd (see below). I work with clients to design an individually-tailored programme to address the issues they are facing. I have a special interest in working with writers. I'm an experienced work consultant and a member of the Oxford Diocese Work Consultant’s network.

I offer a free initial consultation for prospective clients, so we can see whether I'm the right person to help them.

Who do you think you are?

I originally trained to use the Who do you think you are?™ process from SIMA (UK) Ltd. This is a structured, 4-session coaching programme based on SIMA® (System for Identifying Motivated Abilities), which has been developed in the UK by SIMA UK, a well-established Oxford-based consultancy. It is an extremely useful tool for enabling clients to understand themselves and their motivation, and to resolve questions about job fit or life issues.

I successfully completed my Who do you think you are? coaching training and client work with SIMA (UK) Ltd in 2003, and have the certificate to prove it!
'I found the Who do you  think you are? process immensely liberating, enabling me to think through my immediate future and longer term aspirations in fresh ways that were "true to myself". Anne's coaching and insights were invaluable.' Tulo Raistrick

Frequently asked questions

Where do the meetings take place?

I normally see people in my office in Cowley. Oxford. If this is difficult, it's possible to negotiate another venue. I may, however, need to charge additional costs to cover my expenses, and for my time if a long journey is involved.

Meetings can be morning, afternoon or evening, or at weekends if that is the only time available.

How much do you charge?

I want people on low incomes to have access to coaching, so I adjust my fees according to what someone can afford. As a guideline, I charge someone on average income (around £23,000 p.a.) £35/£40 an hour for coaching or work consultancy. Higher earners pay up to £50 an hour, while those on low or no income pay a lot less. The exact fee will be negotiated with each client, and can be paid in instalments. I don't charge VAT.

Your background is working for the church – does your coaching have a religious element?

No and Yes. I'm interested in what makes an individual tick, so if religion plays no part in someone’s life, it won't feature in coaching or consultancy sessions with me. On the other hand, people who have a strong faith will want to relate what they discover about themselves, their motivations and choices, to their faith, and my background means I can work with them on that.

What about confidentiality?

I'm very careful to observe confidentiality, and don't discuss the content of coaching sessions with anyone without a client's permission (or unless required to do so by law). I occasionally have a client worry in case I sneakily 'put them in a book', but I'd never do that. In fact, it works the other way round. If a client's story echoed something I was writing, I'd scrap it in case someone thought it was them.

Do you work with groups or just individuals?

I run workshops to help people examine their motivation and job- or life-fit issues. This may be for people who aren’t sure about the cost or time involved in individual coaching, or people who are simply interested in spending some time in a group on personal development. Or it may be for teams wanting to make better use of their strengths and understanding of one another. For example, I have done a one-day workshop for a group of clergy, a quiet day on 'Facing Changes, Making Choices', and a two hour session with an informal writers’ group. I would be happy to design something for other kinds of group. Fees are negotiable according to what groups can afford. As a guideline, my fee for non-profit-making groups is between £20 and £50 for each hour of the workshop, plus travel.

What do I do next?

Talk to me! I'm happy to answer any questions you have by phone or email, or to meet you to explore options. There's no charge for this, and no problem if you don't wish to go ahead.
